The last time Charlotte James saw Van Gogh’s famous sketch “Regret,” it was hanging on the wall of a museum in Cardiff. That means the version now lying on her desk is a fake. Or does it?
Join Charlotte James, fine art consultant with a dodgy past, and a cast of eccentric characters on the trail of the truth about “Regret.”
Beach listening I call it, or sick-in-bed-with-flu listening. It’s a deliberately droll romp, but with enough substance to save it from silliness, I trust. I had a great deal of fun writing it, and I hope you enjoy listening to it!
If you do, another crime novel, The Incorruptible, is also available in audio form on Google Play Books.
I decided to give virtual voice narration a trial with both, and am pleasantly surprised with the result. No, it is not a human being, but I quite like the neutrality of the voice. In a paradoxical way, it grants more freedom to the imagination. A somewhat tenuous analogy might be the difference between reading a book and watching the re-interpreted screen version of that same work.
The Incorruptible

“If you write anything about this, you will not leave Greece alive.” The man called Yiannis lounged in his deck chair, a clouded glass of ouzo in his hand, and from his tone the words could have been as innocuous as unless you hurry, you might miss your ferry.
Aggie shifted uneasily, wondering what impulse of cretinous stupidity had prompted her to say she was a journalist. But what had been said could not be unsaid.
“I’d be very careful on our mountain passes on that bicycle of yours, thesponis,” he continued smoothly. “Greek drivers can be very careless.”
Follow journalist Agnes Jones as she takes on traffickers in Greece, in a hair-raising adventure with as many twists and turns as those dangerous Greek roads, and in which no-one is quite what they seem.
